Listening is the leadership advantage

The best
leaders
talk least.

They're the first to know what's actually true — because people trust them enough to say it. I help leaders, coaches, and teams turn listening into that advantage, starting with the HEARD framework.

The problem no one names

We train leaders to speak. Almost no one trains them to listen.

We coach people to present, to persuade, to command a room. So they get louder as they get more senior — and a strange thing happens on the way up: the truth stops reaching them. People tell them what's safe, not what's real.

The cost is quiet and enormous. The hard feedback arrives too late. The best idea dies in someone's head. The decision gets made on a curated version of reality. By the time the problem surfaces, it's a crisis.

I learned this in two worlds that look nothing alike — championship locker rooms and corporate boardrooms — and found the same lesson in both: talent is everywhere. What's rare is a leader people will tell the truth to.

That's a skill, not a personality. It can be named, measured, and built. That's what the HEARD framework does.

Talent is common. A leader people trust with the truth is rare.

About Angela

Court to boardroom to the chair across from you.

I captained a national-championship team at Stanford, then spent a decade in the WNBA — eventually running a franchise as President and General Manager. Two very different arenas taught me the same truth: the leaders who win trust are the ones who listen.

As an ICF-certified executive coach, I built the HEARD framework to make that teachable — because "be a better listener" is useless advice, and a method is not. Today I help leaders, coaches, athletes, and teams turn listening into their clearest advantage.
